Activities at anniversaries
Many donators have set up a savings box along with information material about the Ometepe project at festivities, f.e. even birthdays
Activities in nurseries
One nursery has started a „One cent campaign“: By means of stories and photos, the children learned about the situation of the children on Ometepe. In the conversation afterwards, the nursery children had the wish to help their contemporaries. So, a savings box was placed in the nursery and the children collected coins of 1, 2 and 5 cents. After a few weeks, the box was emptied and the considerable sum was handed over to the project in the context of a small celebration. A newspaper article invited to imitate.
Activities in parishes
In the course of the years, there have been celebrated a great many services for Nicaragua and Ometepe, at least a Beat Service in the Johannes church in the barrier Klettenberg of Cologne in November 2007. Collections from weddings or other special services are a good opportunity for a donation for the Omepete project.
Activities in the arts sector
Expositions of photos, paintings and collages dealing with the topic Ometepe, such as, for example, the exposition „Petroglyphs and Calabashes“ by Edith Fischer on June 2nd 2008. (c.f. invitation flyer)
Activities in schools
Some schools have realized charity runs for Omepete. A great many collection campaigns reaching from notebooks and coloured crayons up to shoes and clothes. Each campaign was accompanied by informative presentations about the Omepete project.
Container for Ometepe
In the course of the years, private persons, nurseries, parishes and schools have participated in collections for the container deliveries to Ometepe. The collected objects (clothes, shoes, toys etc) are in a good condition and are not given away on-site but sold for very favourable bargain prices. By this, the money that was used for the shipment of the container was brought in again – and a bit more, which went into the project funds again.
