Conveyance of women
The fence project
Women receive fences by the project for their domestic gardens – and these are necessary to protect their plantations of the pigs that walk about freely on Ometepe. Regarding the risen prices for alimentation etc. it is necessary that the families can supply themselves with the plantation of vegetables.
The government’s programme “cero hambre – zero hunger“, which allots small personal loans especially to women in rural areas, has not expanded into the remote volcano villages yet.
Violence prevention
Violence prevention and advises for women with their specific problems living in a country still marked by machismo are offered by the project’s psychologist Karla Varela and the teacher Minerva Espinoza, who work in the clinic at Santo Domingo as well as in the villages around the volcano Maderas.
Psychological attendance
Further activities of the psychologist Karla Varela in the sector of the conveyance of women are:
- Individual sessions with mothers regarding their personal problems
- Group sessions with families in the remote village San Pedro
- Group therapy with mothers dealing with domestic violence
- Participation at the Central American Psychiatry Congress
- Educational advertising about intra-familiar violence and individual sessions with Fabián and Santos.
- Grief counselling in individual or family sessions in San Pedro
- Practices for stimulation at an early age with children and their mothers (songs, games, riddles, painting)
- Informational conversations and individual sessions with mothers about the pain of grief
